During last term we faced, tackled and had a large degree of success in exploring areas of creativity. According to scholars, creativity is the capability of human beings to face new problems and to respond effectively. Of course each one of us has our own way of solving problems. To encourage this aspect we use The Arts. To build up confidence and trust is a social skill that is largely fostered through Drama Techniques. This is a personal process that each one of us has to develop.

During last term, second, third and fourth graders produced characters that were created by each of the students under certain conditions, they had to be original and they couldn’t resemble any of those found on TV shows or films.

The immense amount of creativity, deep thought and hard work that the students demonstrated was shown in their work. Problems and uncertainty were solved and surmounted. Students discovered answers within themselves.

Drama lessons always encourage new answers and that is why drama is so important in the learning process. To name your character, to decide what they eat, where they live and what is their objective in life, are only some of the issues dealt with in this character building process.

Next term, using what the students created they will face new challenges. They will apply their characters to produce stories that speak about children’s rights, weather, conflicts and more.

Emotion, sensitivity and understanding are part of this life long learning process. The classes during the course have developed a sense of trust and mutual respect. This has enabled highly productive teamwork and a safe environment for students to feel free to express themselves. With these social skills Drama builds self-confidence, bringing out the best of each child and allowing them to be risk-takers as learners.

Language, diction and vocal techniques are naturally inherent in our Drama programme, mostly because it is the way of communicating our targets. Fifth graders had a research challenge last term. Through a learning inquiry, they became familiar with classical composers in Drama lessons and with the construction of instruments for their Music fair. We encouraged them to solve technical problems. Showing the composers’ lives in creative ways, they excelled in their research and variety of responses.

All grades worked as teams, developing leadership, organization and trust as means to complete the tasks.  These are the main goals of our creative programme.

Secondary

During the second term students from secondary were involved in many activities as our Drama Group was not very large, due to this we were able to give more attention to the students' needs.

In Form I, students worked on movement skills which, included mime and dance techniques. Towards the end of the term they were writing pieces for the stage and deciding what play they could work on for the end of the year.

In Form II we worked on performing a musical. This group deserves congratulations for their great effort and commitment considering the fact that many of the students who rehearsed came as extra volunteers.

In Form III our work was based on The Comedy of Errors, a play written by young Shakespeare and which we rehearsed both in English and Spanish. Part of the class designed costumes, props and scenery, showing imagination and good organization skills whilst the others performed.
