SPECIALIST LEARNING AREAS

  • Physical Education
Our PE lessons are innovative and engaging, making the most of the latest social, scientific, and technological developments. We strive to instil positive habits related to physical, psychological, and emotional well-being, and raise awareness of the benefits of regular activity and healthy lifestyles.
  • English
We understand the importance of developing and maintaining our students’ English language skills through Upper School. We know that English bridges the gap between different languages and is a vital tool for success in our increasingly globalised world. As such, we emphasise the importance of being proficient in English, as it is a global communication tool that provides access to outstanding academic, scientific, cultural, and professional opportunities.
  • French
Our French course broadens our Upper School students’ cultural horizons, develops their fluency, and unlocks pathways and university options. Focused on competencies and international standards – including the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and the International Baccalaureate Programme – our programme puts our students on a pathway to achieve globally-respected qualifications.
  • Mathematics
The Mathematics programme we offer at our Upper School in Lima teaches students to search, organise, and analyse data and information; understand and interpret the world logically; make appropriate decisions; solve problems in different situations; and be flexible in their use of numerical strategies and knowledge. Learners also discover how Maths concepts apply to real-world scenarios.
  • Science and Technology
Inquiry is at the heart of scientific learning at Colegio Peruano Británico Upper School, as our students investigate and experiment in Physics, Biology, and Chemistry. Our learners ask questions, seek reliable information, make decisions based on scientific knowledge, and consider social and environmental implications.
  • Social Sciences
The Colegio Peruano Británico Upper School Social Sciences curriculum raises our students’ awareness of the world and encourages them to become agents of social change. We want our learners to explore their roots and embrace their culture, while also connecting with the cultures and traditions of others. This way, they can learn how to become effective global changemakers.
  • Global Politics and Citizenship
One of the best Secondary Schools in Peru, we know we have an important role to play in the civic and political education of our students, as we empower them to actively participate as global citizens.

Our Global Politics and Citizenship programme encourages our learners to become agents of change, capable of thinking and responding to the needs of our school, community, and country. We also introduce them to political systems and processes.
  • Religion and Ethics
Our Religion and Ethics course nurtures our students’ curiosity, as they explore different religious beliefs and learn why people and communities behave the way they do. We encourage our young people to express their opinions in lessons, while critically and sensitively considering the views of others.

Through our Form 1 course, students explore the basic beliefs of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, examined through the lens of leadership. Our Form 2 course, meanwhile, focuses on the three main Eastern religions, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Sikhism.
  • Visual Arts
Our Upper School Visual Arts course deepens our students’ understanding of the creative process, where the act of creating something is valued as much as the material product itself.

Our young creatives explore artistic manifestations over time and their relationships with context and culture. Importantly, our curriculum develops confidence and self-esteem, as students learn to recognise themselves as valuable individuals who can participate in the community through art.
  • Music
Our Upper School students consolidate their musical knowledge, develop their production skills, and embrace the latest music technology. Music has many cognitive benefits, building concentration, increasing attention, and honing visual and auditory memory skills. Our students also develop their complex motor skills, grow in confidence, and enjoy a myriad of opportunities to express their creativity.
  • Business Management
The Colegio Peruano Británico Upper School Business Management course teaches important theories and skills, which our students then apply in real-world business scenarios. Fully supported by practical examples from a range of sources, our popular programme explains how businesses operate around the world. Encouraging entrepreneurship, the course develops a breadth of future-focused business attributes and knowledge.
  • Information Technology
Technology enriches our students’ education, enabling them to express themselves, communicate, and interact. We use virtual environments created by scenarios, spaces, and objects, and teach our students to become responsible digital citizens. We also offer an array of hands-on experiences, including a robotics programme that provides opportunities to code, design, and build.

PRE-THEORY OF KNOWLEDGE (TOK) COURSE

Our pre-Theory of Knowledge (TOK) course is the perfect introduction to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) module that students will study the following year. It’s designed to develop our learners’ analytical and evaluation abilities, as well as their communication skills.

TOK is central to the IBDP philosophy, as it encourages students to reflect on the nature of understanding and consider how and why we learn. It’s underpinned by two questions: ‘what do we know?’ and ‘how do we know?’ By discussing these and other important issues, our students become increasingly aware of their personal and ideological assumptions, and develop an appreciation for the diversity and richness of different cultural perspectives.

upper school drama

Our Drama workshops enrich our students’ appreciation of cultural and artistic manifestations, as they create a range of projects by using artistic languages.

Drama boosts our learners’ intrapersonal qualities, including autonomy, self-confidence, self-motivation, time management, reflection, and evaluation. Through group activities, students also learn to work cooperatively, respectfully, and efficiently. Our programme nurtures emotional intelligence, too, through verbal and non-verbal actions, dramatic imagination, and performance.

upper school robotics

Our Robotics workshops are designed to develop advanced thinking and problem-solving skills, as our students use Arduino to design, program, and build prototypes that have real-world applications.

For example, our learners use sensors – such as hydro-metres to measure the humidity of soil – to program intelligent irrigation systems that encourage the better use of water resources. They also learn to program intrusion alarms, sound sensors to activate lights for home automation, and more.
